Viz Extensions allows you the capability to load new Viz types directly into your Tableau Worksheets. As a Tableau user, you will become less dependent on external applications and manual workflows!
How to use Viz Extensions
Viz Extensions allow you to use additional visualization types onto the Tableau Worksheet Marks card currently available FOR FREE in the Tableau Exchange.
You can simply add new visualizations by selecting the “Add Extension” option in the Marks type dropdown and easily format it in your Tableau Worksheet.
The difference between Viz and Dashboard Extensions.
Viz Extensions:
- New in Tableau version 2024.2
- They are created, configured and reside on the worksheet.
- Viz Extensions are more closely integrated with the Tableau infrastructure.
Dashboard Extensions:
- Available since 2018.
- They are created, configured and reside on the dashboard.
The main benefits of Viz Extensions are extra value in terms of efficiency and usability for dashboard creators and explorers.
For the end user, there is no noticeable difference between Viz and Dashboard Extensions. Viz Extensions are closer to the native way of working within Tableau using the Marks pane and actions.
The benefit of Viz Extensions to your business
Integrated into where and how you work with data, Viz Extensions gives you more freedom in visualizations—the ability to go beyond standard dashboard visualizations by tailoring your data to storytelling with more expressive visualizations. Viz Extensions interact with and feel just like the rest of Tableau.
For businesses, this translates into more impactful presentations, easier and deeper insights, and, ultimately, better decision-making.
Types of visualizations / analytics you can create with Viz Extensions
With Viz Extensions, you’re the artist of your data worksheet. You can create dynamic and unique visualizations like interactive Pivot Tables, Sankey diagrams and Radar Charts. Implement root cause analysis or streamline your processes all with Viz Extensions. It opens the door to specialized visuals that fit your data story perfectly.
Data security
🔒 Secure on-premises solutions.
None of your actual data is accessed or stored by the cloud. By offering both on-premises and SaaS solutions, organizations enjoy flexibility and control while following strict data protection standards. The on-premises Extensions do not require internet access and are entirely secure behind customers’ security systems. The Viz Extensions feature is currently available in the Tableau Cloud 2024.2 environment.
