The extension doesn’t work on Tableau Online/Server2021-09-27T15:57:59+01:00
  • Make sure the extension domain is whitelisted on Tableau Online/Server.
  • Webserver services content with proper X-Frame-Options and Content-Security-Policy headers.
  • Extensions feature is turned on, on Tableau Online/Server.
  • The Extension server/domain has a valid SSL Certificate.
  • Tableau Online/Server has access to the Extension Server to load the extension.

You can find any issues by doing the following: While running on Tableau Online/Server in the browser open the “console” tab in Chrome Developer’s tools. To open the developers tools can be done via: Hamburger menu top right > More Tools > Developer tools. Refresh the page while the developers tools is open. Now you can see if there any issue while embedding.

Note: Tableau will show warnings with something like: ‘cannot load source map’ by default, these are not caused by our extensions. They can be identified based on the domain of the url that it warns with.

Make sure to follow our installation guide to setup the right configuration!

Common issues

CSP Header error or X-Frame-Options error.

Make sure the following headers are properly set:

X-Frame-Options: SAMEORIGIN
Content-Security-Policy: frame-ancestors 'self' *.online.tableau.com;

For Tableau Server *.online.tableau.com should be your domain.

Check all security headers with the following website: https://securityheaders.com/

Can extensions be used with Tableau Online?2021-05-19T10:15:37+01:00

Yes! Only for WriteBack Extreme it will be harder because you need a server to host it.

Do we need licenses to deploy the extension in development and test environments?2020-10-29T09:21:56+01:00

No, you only need licenses for your production environment and you can use the extension on your development and test environment without extra need for licenses.

Extension not working on a MAC?2018-10-16T09:03:01+01:00

Due to a bug in the Extensions API from Tableau dropdowns are not working correctly on MAC.
You will have to use your arrow keys in combination with TAB to change the values.

Why do I have to select the number of Tableau users?2021-07-12T11:50:55+01:00

The license/subscription for use of Extensions is based on the total number of users in your Tableau environment (so the Total of all Tableau Creator, Explorer and Viewer licenses). If you are on a Tableau Core model we use the average of 1000 users per 8-core license. So an Extension Subscription is based on the size of your Tableau implementation. If you are on an active subscription you can also use the extension in a DEV or TEST environment without counting your test and dev users as extension users.

How can I evaluate extensions2019-05-20T08:23:40+01:00

Our extensions always have a 14 day free trial version. You can use this version to evaluate the extensions. There are no payment details needed.

We use the latest versions of WooCommerce and WordPress. Both are fully GDPR compliant. We will only use your data for billing purposes.

Is payment secure?2019-05-20T08:24:34+01:00

Yes, we use external payment providers to ensure the maximum amount of security possible.

What payment providers can I use?2018-06-29T14:28:07+01:00

You can use CreditCard and iDEAL. If you require something else, please contact us.

Can I switch my subscription plan?2018-05-28T11:07:21+01:00

Yes you can always upgrade or downgrade your subscription plan by navigation to my subscriptions. Click on your subscription and scroll down to subscription totals. Use the ‘Upgrade or Downgrade’ button to change the plan of a product. You will navigate to the extension product page where you can select a new plan. Add it to your shopping cart. At checkout there will be a summary of the difference in cost.

What if I exceed my subscription plan?2018-05-28T11:04:01+01:00

We will monitor the concurrent connections per license. If the license is exceeded multiple times per month we will offer you a higher plan. If the subscription keeps exceeding the concurrent connections we can suspend the subscription and switch the extensions to the free model which has watermarks and limited functionality.

What is best practise use for personalized views of dashboards (Use of Filters)?2018-06-12T16:22:58+01:00

Use filters

The PDF Scheduler allows the use of  ‘Filters’. These Filters allow you to send PDF file(s) of a filtered dashboard to a specific user; for example if you want to send a financial dashboard of a single store to a store owner, while the Tableau Dashboard has Financial information on all stores. The use of filters in the PDF scheduler is similar to the use of regular url parameters supported by Tableau Server (Check the Tableau Community for more information on URL parameters).

The use of filters in the PDF scheduler is bound to certain rules affecting your dashboard design:

  1. All filters you want to apply in the PDF scheduler have to be present in the view you specify in the Task. When you set a filter and/or filter value in the PDF scheduler that is not present in the view specified in the task, the filter will be neglected on the dashboard and the recipient will receive the unfiltered dashboard.
  2. The filter name and filter values have to correspond exactly with the names and values in the dashboard, respect Case Sensitivity and the use of spaces!
  3. When working with confidential data in your Dashboards, it is best to set all filters to all unselected. In case of filter mismatching the recipient will receive an empty dashboard instead of ‘all’ confidential information.

example
URL: https://mytableauserver.com/#/site/demo/views/mysupermarkt/distance
Filters: Zip code=7575BB&Radius=2

Resulting URL to use as view in your task: https://mytableauserver.com/#/site/demo/views/mysupermarkt/distance?Zip code=7575BB&Radius=2

This will result in a one page PDF dashboard showing all supermarkets in a radius of 2 km around the ZIP code 7575BB. Notice the space and Capitilazation in the filtername ‘Zip code’.  The filters/parameters ‘Zip code’ and ‘Radius’ have to be present in the Tableau Workbook dashboard ‘distance’.

Can I send personal reports with the PDFScheduler?2021-08-17T08:23:34+01:00

Sure! By using url parameters in the addressing of your view you can make sure your recipient receives a PDF file with a proper filtered dashboard.

Example: The link below points to a dashboard on Tableau Public. The second link points to the same view but there’s a URL parameter added that acts like a filter on your view. In this case we filterd the Region North America

Full dashboard / view

Filtered view of the same dashboard (just added the following string to the url of the view: “?Region=North America”

https://public.tableau.com/profile/sophie.sparkes#!/vizhome/TableauPublic10Training-CO2EmissionsWorkbook/DeviceSpecificDashboard?Region=North%20America

Can I send the email to multiple recipients?2021-08-17T08:22:32+01:00

Yes of course you can! Each task can be sent to one or multiple recipient(s). The subject and body text of the mailing will be the same for all recipients.

Can I send multiple dashboards in one PDF file?2021-08-17T08:22:45+01:00

Yes you can! Every task you create reults in a PDF file to be sent and/or stored. Each task consists of at least one view but may contain as many views as you like. All views you add to a task will result in an extra page in the tasks PDF file. Each view can be filtered an parametrized the way you like it!

Is the number of emails I can send with the PDF Scheduler limited?2018-06-12T15:30:52+01:00

There is no technical limit in the number of emails you can send with the PDF Scheduler. Your local (internal) mailserver might have limits in the number of emails to be sent (suspicious use of email)

Do I need a Tableau Server to use the PDFScheduler?2021-08-17T08:23:26+01:00

Yes. The Tableau Server PDF Scheduler generates PDF files from dashboards published on your Tableau Server.

Which databases are supported with Dashboard Usage 2.0?2021-05-19T10:10:09+01:00

Dashboard Usage requires a database to store dashboard information. All data is stored locally, so you’ll need to have a database setup. Currently supported databases are:

  1. Microsoft SQL Server
  2. MySQL
  3. PostgreSQL
Do we need licenses to deploy the extension in development and test environments?2020-10-29T09:21:56+01:00

No, you only need licenses for your production environment and you can use the extension on your development and test environment without extra need for licenses.

Do I need an internet connection to use this extension, even when installing on Premise?2018-07-03T08:06:56+01:00

Yes! The Dashboard Usage extension uses Google Analytics to register the hits from your dashboard visitors. Therefore you must have an active internet connection on the (published) dashboards you want to monitor.

What’s wrong with Tableau Server number of views report?2018-06-01T12:28:38+01:00

Nothing! This is a great and reliable source for server admins to monitor the number of hits on every view of a dashboard. This extension allows dashboard creators / developers to be more specific on the origin of the visitors of your dashboards as it uses Google Analytics to regsiter the hits on your dashboard. Besides all that the Dashboard Usage extension can be much more specific of several functional elemenbts in the usage of your dashboards like the use of filters, parameters en interaction with marks within your sheets.

Can you use different corporate identities?2021-08-16T15:01:48+01:00
Yes, you can. You can create multiple parameters to sync the layout to. Or do not sync them at all. This way, you can set the layout for each container separately. To update the layout that you have synchronized to the parameter, just import your new Identity from a text file.

Sankey Diagram is crashing2021-05-19T10:17:20+01:00

If you are running into problems building the Sankey Diagram please check the following tip:

  • Members from the used dimensions can’t be the same. This will create an endless loop and crashes the Sankey Diagram.
    • you can solve this by adding a prefix in front of your dimension. For example: ‘from’ + [from dimension] OR ‘to’ + [to dimension]
  • Dimensions can’t have empty values. The Sankey Diagram will filter this.
  • Measure can’t be 0 or below 0.

Snowflake – Schema create throws error but it did create it2021-10-21T15:38:01+01:00

When creating a new schema for Snowflake an error message was thrown with: table X already exists. But you just newly created the schema and didn’t exists before.

Reason
This is happening because the PDO/ODBC implemention of Snowflake has some quirks with preparing a SQL query. Our intended workflow of all of our database implementations should be: Prepare data (escape/sanitisize data) -> execute query. Only the default Snowflake ODBC implemention fires the query directly in preparing the query.

Solution
Within the ODBC driver configuration file we need to set the configuration `NoExecuteInSQLPrepare=true` re-enable the original intended functionality of the prepare statement of the PDO/ODBC. Checkout the [Snowflake documentaion](https://docs.snowflake.com/en/release-notes/2020-08.html#odbc-driver-2-21-6-changes-to-the-handling-of-ddl-statements-in-sqlprepare-and-sqlexecute) for help.

Does the no auth method work with MS SQL Server Auth or is it between the backend and frontend?2021-08-16T15:01:09+01:00
The connection with the database is managed by the backend. The no auth is only for access to the frontend of the extension.
A printable extension part is something Tableau needs to incorporate as other dashboard items can’t be printed. To connect to the backend data would still be possible to join or relate it to the other data and do something printable, right?2021-05-19T10:22:47+01:00
That is correct. Tableau is working really hard to make that possible. Luckely you can query, join or relate the Write Back data right into your dashboard and visualize it and then print it of course :).
What databases are supported by the WriteBackExtreme extension?2021-08-17T08:19:34+01:00

We are currently supporting: MySQL, SQL Server, PostgreSQL  and Snowflake. But we are working on other databases. Check out more on our product page: https://appsfortableau.infotopics.com/writebackextreme/

We have developed a permissions system which is very similar to Tableau Server. You can set permissions on your schema’s for every group. These permissions will be pushed to the extension automatically.

Content-Security-Policy: frame-ancestors 'self' *.online.tableau.com;

For Tableau Server *.online.tableau.com should be your domain.

Check all security headers with the following website: https://securityheaders.com/

Can you still use other custom KPI’s in ProcessMining than the ones present in the new ProcessMining extension?2021-08-16T15:20:23+01:00
Yes you can use any custom KPI by adding it to the datasheet. In the Analytics pane you can set your aggregation and field type (duration, frequency, SUM, average etc.)
What are the data input formats you require to create the process maps and dashboards?2021-05-19T10:15:05+01:00
You will need a dataset with only 3 records: Case ID, Activity and Timestamp. For example,  an order going through order statusses at certain timestamps. This data is often generated by applications ike CRM systems, Sales and supplier data

How boost is working with large data volume >23mln rows?2021-08-10T18:40:16+01:00

Performance is boosted by around 40% with the new booster setting using the latest API improvements.

SuperTables are not printable or exportable to PDF, right?2021-08-10T18:36:55+01:00

Tableau Server/Online does not support the embedding of web elements (and extensions are also web elements). Tableau Desktop does and I know Tableau Software is working to enable this feature on the Server platform as well. Unfortunately currently we have to do without the embedding of extensions in the PDF and image exports.

With the improvements to Super Table pivots, are you able to pivot multiple measures? The same example you used in the demo with 3 Dimensions, one date, and one measure. Could you have Sales and Margin, for example?2021-05-19T10:14:34+01:00
Yes that is possible! Try it with a free trial or your subscription (updated version) and let me know if it worked out!
When were the new features added to the SuperTables extension?2021-05-19T10:15:16+01:00

Last weeks, you can find the changelog with release dates here: https://appsfortableau.infotopics.com/support/changelogs/

When does SuperTables loads the data when using the pop-up option?2021-05-19T10:15:24+01:00

It loads data on popup, but on Tableau Server/Online you can keep the popup open and mark selections will only update the data. So in case of performance, nothing changes when the popup is opened.
