WriteBackExtreme Tutorials
Part 1 – Management Console
In this tutorial you will learn how to create a new schema using the management console. You will learn the basics of the management console and how to create a schema.
Part 2 – Use schema as a datasource
This tutorial shows how to add a table you created with a WriteBackExtreme Schema as a Tableau Datasource. It is not required, but a useful step to use data which is added with your newly created WriteBackExtreme schema. You can use this data to join, blend or relate it with your primary datasources.
Part 3 – Add WriteBackExtreme to dashboard
In this WriteBackExtreme (WBE) extension tutorial you will learn how to add the extension to your dashboard and connect to your newly created schema. We use a ‘Data Helper’ schema in this tutorial. With the Data Helper module of the Write Back Extreme extension for Tableau you can add, edit and delete records in a dedicated database that has no direct connection to any existing data in your dashboard. Of course you can blend or join on fields you add to your schema and configure with the WBE form builder. You will learn:
- How to add the extension to the dashboard
- Do the initial configuration of the WBE extension
- Add your first write back action to the database
- Fine tune your extensions connection to the dashboard
Part 4 – Interact with WriteBackExtreme
In this Write Back Extreme (WBE) extension tutorial you will learn how to add and use the Add Data module in your dashboard. The Add Data module stores the added data in a dedicated (new) table and maintains a link in a _mapping table in that same database. The Add Data module solves a lot of Tableau Use Cases like Forecasting, Budgeting and Annotation. This tutorial shows you a forecasting use case. You will learn:
- How to configure a sheet that triggers the extension and shows the added data
- How to join the _mapping and _users table with your write back data
- How to add the extension to your dashboard
- How to fine-tune your Extensions connection to the dashboard
- How to add your records with the Add Data module
Part 5 – Use Data Correction Module
With the Data Correction Module of the WriteBackExtreme Extension for Tableau, you enable your users to change existing data from your Tableau Dashboard in a secure and governed way. You will learn:
- Connect to an existing datasource (Sensor data Table in database)
- Create a sheet with a unique ID and the logged in Username on the details
- Create a new Data Correction schema in the Management Console / Backend
- Add the WriteBackExtreme extension to your dashboard
- Configure the Extension and connection to the schema
- Use the Form Builder to design the form
- Start editing your existing data
Part 6 – How to set up a Workflow
Workflows enable users to integrate with other applications (or users) when data is added, changed or deleted in WriteBackExtreme.
Multiple workflow automation tools like Salesforce Flow, Microsoft Power Automate and Zapier are supported.
- Start in the WriteBackExtreme Management Console to create a trigger for a schema.
- Generate a sample payload, i.e., the data structure sent to Power Automate.
- In Power Automate, create a flow and a trigger and paste the payload. Next, create an action, hit save and copy the URL.
- Paste the URL in WriteBackExtreme, save the workflow and test your scenario.
