FAQ

What is considered a user/seat?2025-04-25T13:45:43+01:00

Anyone who interacts with a published dashboard (including Tableau viewers, creators and explorers).

How do you know how many of our viewers use the extension?2025-04-25T13:46:47+01:00

Tableau gives every account a unique key, this is how we measure the number of Unique Users. Regardless of which devices the user uses, it’s the same unique key. The key does not allow us to identify the actual user (privacy is guaranteed); we just have a unique token and never receive any of your data.

How do you count the number of licenses?2025-04-25T13:47:43+01:00

Total hits for the extension in a published dashboard over the last 12 months. For example, if a user hasn’t accessed a published dashboard in the last 12 months, they will not count as a seat for the license anymore. We never receive any of your data.

How are the 5 free seats for Viz Extensions distributed?2025-04-25T13:48:56+01:00

Seat counts are first-come, first-served per Extension (on the published dashboards using the Extension).

How do existing SaaS customers upgrade?2025-04-25T13:49:30+01:00

Existing SaaS customers need to request a quote to upgrade, just like they are used to.

Can we add and remove users to the free Extension plan?2025-04-25T13:50:54+01:00

Seat counts are first-come, first-served per Extension; the counter can periodically be reset by the portal admin. After a seat reset, it is again first-come, first-serve for the specific extension seat count.

How do you know how many enterprise/on-premises seats/users use the Extensions?2025-04-25T14:58:15+01:00

By Tableau design, an anonymous unique user token is identified to track the total number of users, which is stored locally. The seat count is not displayed within the portal, as on-premises does not send any data and runs fully offline.Â
